What is Pilates and Contrology?

Pilates is a type of mind-body exercise developed in the early 20th century by German physical trainer Joseph Pilates, after whom it was named. Pilates called his method “Contrology". Contrology is the comprehensive system of movement that consists of over 500 exercises developed by Joseph Pilates himself.  It is “movement of all kinds.” and works the entire body equally, including the mind. Just as we try to be “mindful” of people around us, we also need to learn to be mindful of our bodies while in motion or sedentary.  Contrology seeks to restore imbalances that can be caused by repetitive, incorrect posture or movement. The way we move throughout our day and lives effects our minds, bodies and souls and therefore, directly impacts our quality of life.
